Gort Cancer Support
Gort Cancer Support was established in June 2007 to provide support and practical assistance to people affected by a cancer diagnosis. We adopt a holistic approach towards our clients and their family members by providing a range of activities and social events which will enhance our clients wellbeing and coping skills. Our cancer support centre is managed and operated by trained volunteers with the assistance of administrative staff and professional therapists. We offer a home from home environment where one will feel relaxed and welcome.
Our Registered Charity Number (RCN) is 20075927.
We are absolutely thrilled to share that over €13,000 was raised at our Passion for Fashion event. Over 250 people joined us on the day & behind the scenes, a huge amount of work went into making it all happen.
A special thank you to the Lady Gregory Hotel for generously hosting the event & providing prosecco, all free of charge. Having the space to beautifully showcase all the donated fashion was essential to the success of the event.
Thank you to everyone who donated clothes, mirrors & rails. Thank you also to all those who attended, helping raise vital funds to support our charity.
A big shout-out to all in the centre, who worked under tough conditions for the last number of weeks. A special mention again to Mary who allowed her home to be taken over by clothes in order to hold this event.
Thank you also to David Kelly & Paul Gillen for the use of their vans to ferry rails & clothes.
Thank you to our committee & our wonderful team of volunteers, who gave many hours of their time on both Saturday & Sunday - we simply couldn’t have done it without you. THANKS EVERYONE 🥰

As our wonderful Yoga for Cancer instructor Carol Ceann agus Croí prepares to welcome her first baby, we want to take a moment to thank her for her calming, caring nature she has brought to our Wednesday morning sessions.
This week, Carol received a small gift from Cara on behalf of all of us at Hollyblue House — a token of our appreciation & warmest wishes as she begins this exciting new chapter.
There will be no Yoga for Cancer classes on Wednesday mornings for the foreseeable future but we’ll be sure to keep you updated on any changes. Anyone who has been attending the yoga sessions is very welcome to try either Tai Chi (Wed at 2pm) or Chair Yoga (Mon at 2pm).

In August alone, 40 trips were made to University Hospital Galway, Merlin Park & the Galway Clinic, helping 9 clients get to vital appointments & all thanks to the dedication of 23 of our incredible drivers.
This service is truly life-changing, especially for those living alone or in rural communities, where access to transport can be a major barrier to care. Our volunteers make it possible for clients to attend appointments with dignity, ease & peace of mind.
