Gort Cancer Support
Gort Cancer Support was established in June 2007 to provide support and practical assistance to people affected by a cancer diagnosis. We adopt a holistic approach towards our clients and their family members by providing a range of activities and social events which will enhance our clients wellbeing and coping skills. Our cancer support centre is managed and operated by trained volunteers with the assistance of administrative staff and professional therapists. We offer a home from home environment where one will feel relaxed and welcome.
Our Registered Charity Number (RCN) is 20075927.

July is Sarcoma Awareness Month. Sarcoma is a rare group of cancers that develop in the body's connective tissues, including muscles, fat, blood vessels, nerves, tendons & bones.
There are two main types:
🟡 Soft tissue sarcomas (around 80% of cases)
🦴 Bone sarcomas (also known as primary bone cancers)
Sarcomas can occur anywhere in the body, but they are most commonly found in the arms, legs & abdomen. They often present as a painless lump that gradually increases in size, although persistent pain or tenderness may sometimes be the only symptom.
Although sarcoma accounts for less than 1% of all adult cancers, it is more common in children, teenagers and young adults.
Know the signs:
🔸 A lump that is growing, even if it isn't painful
🔸 Persistent or unexplained pain or tenderness
🔸 Changes in movement or function of an arm or leg
If you notice any of these symptoms, don't ignore them. Speak to your GP. While most lumps are not cancer, early investigation can lead to earlier diagnosis &, if needed, earlier treatment.

Next year, we'll celebrate 20 years of supporting individuals & families affected by a cancer diagnosis.
As we prepare for this special milestone, we want to hear from the people who have been part of our journey.
• Has our centre supported you or someone you love?
• Did you find comfort here during a difficult time?
• Is there a member of staff, volunteer or service that made a difference?
Whether it's a few words, a favourite memory or a longer story, we'd love to hear it. Your contributions may be featured in a commemorative book we hope to create to celebrate 20 years of our charity.
Please send your contributions to: info@gortcancersupport.ie before the deadline of Wednesday 30th September. Contributions can be anonymous if you wish. Thank you 💙
