Gort Cancer Support was established in June 2007 to provide support and practical assistance to people affected by a cancer diagnosis. We adopt a holistic approach towards our clients and their family members by providing a range of activities and social events which will enhance our clients wellbeing and coping skills. Our cancer support centre is managed and operated by trained volunteers with the assistance of administrative staff and professional therapists. We offer a home from home environment where one will feel relaxed and welcome.

Today marks the beginning of European Cervical Cancer Awareness Week. In Ireland, more than 250 individuals are diagnosed with cervical cancer annually.
It's crucial to be aware of the symptoms & seek medical advice if you have any concerns. Symptoms can include:
~ Abnormal bleeding: This includes bleeding between periods, after intercourse, or any unexpected bleeding.
~ Post-menopausal bleeding: Any bleeding after menopause should be checked.
~ Unusual vaginal discharge: This may be watery, bloody, or have a foul odour.
~ Blood in the urine;
~ Discomfort or pain during sexual intercourse: This can indicate underlying issues that need medical attention.
Early detection & treatment are key to managing cervical cancer effectively.

Exciting news - we are delighted to announce that we will now be offering oncology massage as one of our reflexologists, Anne Loughrey, is also qualified in this area.
Oncology massage is an approach to massage therapy that is a client specific massage session designed to meet the unique & changing needs of someone who is dealing with a cancer diagnosis, in treatment for cancer or has a history of cancer. It is designed to nurture, comfort & support the individual.
Oncology massage is not a substitute for medical care & does not aim to treat cancer itself but adapts massage techniques to provide therapeutic touch that is not only effective but also safe for cancer patients. An oncology massage can help improve sleep, relaxation and immune function as well as relieve anxiety, pain, fatigue & nausea.
Oncology massage will be available by appointment on completion of a medical consent form by either your oncologist or your GP, depending on the stage of treatment. For more information please contact us on 086 1724500.
